Pro Tips for Homeowners
When a circuit breaker trips on your HVAC, reset it once and watch what happens. If it trips again immediately or within minutes, stop — don't keep resetting. Repeated breaker trips with a failing component can destroy the compressor.
Low-voltage wiring controls your entire HVAC system — it's the communication layer between the thermostat and every component. A single corroded wire or loose connection can cause intermittent, hard-to-diagnose problems.
Capacitors degrade slowly over time. A capacitor that's reading 60% of its rated capacitance can still test as 'working' but will cause problems under load. We measure capacitance precisely and replace on condition, not just failure.
Not all smart thermostats work with all HVAC systems. Heat pumps, multi-stage systems, and Trane communicating systems have specific wiring requirements. We check compatibility before purchase and installation.

FAQ
Common Questions
Can you install a smart thermostat on any HVAC system?
Most modern systems are compatible with Ecobee or Nest, but not all. Heat pumps with auxiliary heat require a C-wire and correct wiring review. Trane communicating systems (variable-speed equipment) work best with Trane ComfortLink II thermostats — pairing them with a generic Nest can result in lost functionality. We check compatibility first.
My breaker trips when the AC starts — is that dangerous?
Yes, it can be. Breaker trips on startup usually indicate a failing capacitor (the most common cause), a motor drawing excessive current, or a compressor starting issue. Don't keep resetting it — you're risking compressor damage. Have it diagnosed promptly.
What's a capacitor and how do I know if mine is failing?
Capacitors store energy and provide the starting boost for motors — blower motor, condenser fan motor, and compressor. Symptoms of a failing capacitor: the outdoor unit hums but doesn't start, the blower starts slowly, the system trips the breaker on startup, or you hear a clicking sound before shutdown. They're inexpensive to replace and one of the most common HVAC repairs.
Do you install zoning systems?
Yes. Zoning systems use motorized dampers in your ductwork to direct conditioned air to specific areas based on individual zone thermostats. They're most effective in two-story homes where upper floors overheat, or in large single-story homes with different exposure zones.
